After taking Squealer to the doctor last week and forced to sit through an entire viewing of Milo and Otis in the waiting room, I was reminded of how many animal shows I watched as a kid. Here are the intorductions to the two I enjoyed the most.
Mutual of Omaha's Wild Kingdom
(Note Marlin Perkins sniffing the wind like a prairie dog).
Daktari
It wasn't an animal show of course, but no one did animals better than Johnny

Yes to all of this!
I watched Wild Kingdom every week. I can still sing the Mutual of Omaha theme, with the wrong words I'm sure -- but the tune is in my brain forever!
Never watched Daktari, though I was aware of it. I don't know how I wasn't watching a show that featured *an elephant with a toothache* in the opening credits.
Johnny is classy, charming, and has incredible timing and takes. Those clips will never get old. The master.
Bobby,
The WK theme song was haunting. I was surprised to learn that the show is still on, sponsored by Mutual of Omaha on Animal Planet. (Check local listings).
